1. What is an Electronic Travel Authority?

An Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) provides authorisation to travel to and enter Australia and is electronically linked to your passport. It is for short term stays for tourism or business visitor activities such as attending a conference, making business enquiries or for contractual negotiations. Business visitor activities do not include work.


2. Can I apply for an ETA online?

To apply for an ETA online through this website, you must hold a passport from one of the following countries or regions:

If you aren’t eligible to apply for an ETA online you might be able to apply through a travel agent, airline or at an Australian visa office. As part of the application/approval process, you will be issued with a Reference Number. You will need the Reference Number to check the status of your ETA or your application. 3. How long can I stay In Australia while on an ETA?

You can remain in Australia for an maximum of three months on each browse through. After your ETA is provided you are able to get in and also leave Australia as often times as you have to during a Twelve Month duration, from the day the ETA is provided or until the expiry day of your passport, whichever is earlier.


4. How long will my ETA take to process?

In most cases, you will be informed of the result of your application before leaving the online ETA system. Some applications might require additional processing. If your application is not processed immediately, check back in 12 hours via Check an ETA to confirm if your application is approved.


5. What do I do if I do not satisfy the requirements for applying online?

If you do not satisfy the requirements for applying ETA online, please apply through travel agent, airline or an Australian visa office. If you are not available for an ETA VISA, you can still apply for a other electronic visiting visa.


6. Can I include my family members on my ETA application?

No. If you have a family member, you will have to apply each for an application. Even if your child is traveling under your passport, they will need their own application.


7. What can I do if I make a mistake in my application?

It is important that you are very careful when you enter your personal details. You will have an opportunity to review all the details you have provided and can change the details at any time until you confirm all details as correct.

If you have made an error, it is important that you correct it before proceeding. Once you have confirmed the details, your credit card will be debited for the non-refundable service charge.

If you find out later that you have made a mistake, you will need to make a new application (and incur another service charge). We cannot change the details on an ETA once it has been issued.

Note: If your ETA details do not match your passport details you might experience delays when boarding your aircraft or be refused entry into Australia.


8. Can my children (dependants) travel on my e-Visa?

Yes, kindly use his/her ID information alongside your personal information when completing the online application form. Please use your child's (dependants) identification data requested at the time of of completion when adding another traveler to your application. There are no exceptions regarding age.


9. Do I need a plane ticket before purchasing an ETA?

No. You do not need to arrange your transportation into the country before applying for an ETA. Whether you are traveling by boat or plane, it's okay to apply for your ETA anytime before or after your confirmed ticket.
